UNDERWATER TRANSDUCERS
The Chief Scientist in this specialty
area of transducers and arrays is Dr. John L. Butler. He has over 35
years experience in the design and analysis of transducer elements and
arrays. He holds seventeen patents, has published over 25 papers on
electro-acoustic transducers and was elected Fellow of the Acoustical
Society of America in 1977. His experience includes the design of
Flextensional, Tonpilz piston type, Ring, Cylindrical, Hybrid
(piezoelectric/magnetostrictive), Bender and other underwater sound
projectors and various hydrophones. His experience includes the use of
piezoelectric, magnetostrictive (Terfenol-D and Metglass) PMN-PT, PVDF
and 31 composite transduction materials. His most recent publication is
"A tri-modal directional transducer," (with A.L. Butler and J.A. Rice)
J. Acoust. Soc. Am., 115, 1-8 (1995).
Image Acoustics, Inc. uses
Finite Element Analysis and a battery of transducer and array computer
programs to perform efficient and effective design and analysis. Many
of these programs were developed and coded at Image Acoustics, Inc. and
are available for commercial use. For information on Image software see
"SOFTWARE" on the Image homepage.
